One of the most common questions we are asked within our Customer Service Department at Travel Insured International is – How can I insure a trip when I do not have a trip cost? Most travelers think that if you do not have a trip cost then you cannot purchase travel insurance; however, our policies ensure that our clients can be covered even without a trip cost. We offer coverage for Trip Interruption, Missed Connection (on select plans), Trip Delay, Baggage and Personal Effects, Baggage Delay, Emergency Medical Expenses, Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation of Remains as well as Accidental Death and Dismemberment (on select plans).
So what happens when you do not have trip cancellation benefits?
If you need coverage for pre-existing conditions, you should insure your trip for the full non-refundable cost instead of opting for $0 trip cost.
By not insuring a trip cost there would be no coverage if you had to cancel your trip prior to departure. $0 trip cost policies are normally purchased by those who are not concerned with cancelling their trip and who are looking for all other coverage such as medical, baggage delay, etc.
The Trip Interruption benefit is still included under all the insurance policies even if you are not insuring the cost of your trip; however coverage per insured traveler is limited to $1,000 on our Worldwide Trip Protector Gold plan and $500 on our Worldwide Trip Protector, Trip Protector Lite, and Trip Protector Lite Expanded plans, for return airfare. So the next time you are looking for travel insurance and think just because you don’t have a trip cost there is no plan for you, think again and turn to Travel Insured International and we would be more than happy to assist you with finding a plan which meet your needs.
